2022 Southern VA Precision Ag and Farm Efficiency Program
The overall objective of the Southern Virginia Precision Agriculture and Farm Efficiency Grant is to allow producers to enhance their operation’s input cost savings, and improve environmental management through the adoption of precision technologies, produce handling and hay storage improvements, produce equipment and cold storage enhancements, and livestock handling improvements. This will be accomplished by offering a 33% cost share incentive in four (4) categories. The components are: Precision and Improved Agricultural Technology, Produce Handling & Hay Storage Facilities, and Produce Equipment & Cold Storage, and Livestock Improvements..
This initiative will be targeted to 20 Tobacco Commission Counties: Amelia, Appomattox, Bedford, Brunswick, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Franklin, Greensville, Halifax, Henry, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Prince Edward, and Sussex. Tobacco funds are being requested to provide matching funds for 5 Agriculture producers in each of the 20 counties. This grant would provide up to a 33% reimbursement not to exceed $5,000.00 per producer (approximately a $15,000 project). Producers must spend a minimum of $3,000 to be eligible for reimbursement.
Application will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. Applicants who have received funding for a practice in previous grants are ineligible to receive funding for that same practice. Applicants may apply for components for which they have not received funding in previous grants. If a county doesn’t receive enough applications to utilize their allotment any remaining funds will be redistributed among a waiting list based upon the date and time of receipt of the application and with consideration for geographic distribution within the eligible counties.
